Students as Teachers: Generative AI for Formative Assessment and Peer-Led Learning Using Gamma.app (Training Room 1) In-Person
This hands-on workshop introduces a student-centred formative assessment activity using Gamma.app, an AI-powered presentation tool. Aimed at lecturers, module leaders, and others seeking to embed active,peer-led learning and AI in their teaching, the session models a flexible approach that can be applied across disciplines.
Participants will take on the role of students in a structured seminar task. Working individually or in small groups, they will be provided with:
• A complex document (e.g. academic article, case study, or theory summary)
• A realistic brief (e.g. “Present this concept to new recruits in your organisation”)
Groups/individuals will write a prompt for Gamma.app, generate an initial presentation, critically review and refine the content, and vote on which groups present to the class. This activity supports deeper learning, peer teaching, and digital literacy, while surfacing how students understand and apply course concepts.
Workshop Learning Outcomes:
• Explore how Generative AI can be embedded in the curriculum
• Experience how AI can support development of Lecture materials
• Create a presentation using Gamma.app, a lesser-known AI tool
• Reflect on how AI can enhance content delivery and student engagement
• Take away a ready-to-adapt template for a student-led seminar activity
Skills Explored
Participants will develop the following skills, regardless of prior experience:
• Writing effective prompts for Generative AI
• Critically evaluating AI-generated content
• Designing slides for clarity and impact
